Energy efficiency is increasingly more important when it comes to the cloud. It is not only important for the environment, but it can also save companies money in the long run. There is a movement towards energy efficient cloud infrastructures, especially on the coasts where there are higher electricity costs than there are in the Midwest.

While not every company is ready to commit to an energy efficient cloud it is important that each company starts to take steps in that direction. That is why Bob Mobach from Logicalis has come up with 4 ways to improve cloud computing energy efficiency.

  1. Consider cooling requirements in hardware section
  2. Get more disciplined about storage architecture
  3. Virtualize, virtualize, virtualize
  4. Correlate infrastructure investments more closely to actual application requirements

Do you agree with Bob that these 4 steps will lead a company towards a more energy efficient cloud infrastructure making this ripe? Or do you think this is hype?
