A new report from tech jobs site Dice.com says that big data is becoming a major part of more industry segments. According to the report, just 3% of big data jobs posted on Dice require security clearance, meaning that these jobs aren’t confined to their traditional roles in Washington, D.C. anymore.
In fact, 24% of these jobs are located in Silicon Valley, impressive considering that this region makes up just 7% of all jobs posted. Similarly, Boston and Seattle have 7% and 6% respectively of the big data jobs pool, but account for only 3% each of total jobs on Dice.

The takeaway: Big data is expanding its reach, both across industries and into new geographies. Gartner reported earlier this year that 42% of IT leaders say that have already invested in big data, or plan to at some point in the next year. This is clearly being borne out through the uptick in big data job postings.
