Data backup was just a pain, but now it’s a major risk issue for public and private sector enterprises. However, as cloud computing takes hold, more organizations are beginning to outsource their backup and disaster recovery processes – and are noticing a huge burden lifted.

The backup and recovery issues that in-house IT teams faced are now services provided by the cloud vendors.

The operational benefits of moving to cloud-based backup and DR are major.  You no longer have to worry about buying backup servers or software, you have reduced client license costs, and simpler end-user service level agreements (SLAs).  Plus, you struggle with backup devices or buy more equipment to keep pace with data growth.

Is this Hype (companies are still using backups), or Ripe (the cloud is replacing back-ups)?
