By Brandon Harris, Sr. Director/HPE Solutions
The transformation of HPE from a technology company to a solutions company is complete—and it was on full display at HPE Discover 2018 in Las Vegas.
It was clear from the general session keynote, led by CEO Antonio Neri, that HPE continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible to advance the way we live and work.
According to a recent Gartner report: “By 2022, as a result of digital business projects, 75% of enterprise-generated data will be created and processed outside the traditional, centralized data center or cloud, up from less than 10% in 2018.” For Neri, this explosion of data is driving the next technological revolution—and it calls for what he termed “the enterprise of the future.”
What does the HPE enterprise of the future look like? It’s edge-centric, cloud-enabled, and data driven.
Edge-centric for the next revolution
Because digital transformation happens at the edge, this next revolution requires an edge-to-cloud architecture. Data at the edge will enable fast decisions, actions, and results right where you interact with your customers.
To create this edge-to-cloud architecture, HPE is investing $4 billion over the next four years. The bulk of that investment will be in R&D to advance innovative products, services, and consumption models with security, connectivity, automation, machine learning, and AI at the forefront.
To help you get there, HPE is adding software-defined WAN capabilities powered by Aruba Central. In this model, data passes through the core to the edge and cloud to accelerate service deployments and time to value.
Cloud-enabled with central management
Though we live in a hybrid world, Neri points out that it’s often by accident. In addition to their private clouds, most organizations have multiple business units using public cloud services outside the control of the IT department, creating waste and compliance challenges. Plus, it’s not easy to manage.
HPE GreenLake, a paradigm shift in how you operate your IT environment, relieves the operational burden on IT by delivering the best of public cloud and on-premises IT in a consumption-based, pay-as-you-go model. Start with a suite of curated, on-prem solutions—hardware, software, and services—to build your private cloud. Then add your off-premise clouds—such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google—to dramatically simplify IT management.
With GreenLake, you can take the focus off day-to-day operations and consume the exact cloud resources you need, whether on-prem or public, while accelerating time to value, aligning IT cost with business priorities, and gaining better control.
Data-driven for business-changing insights
Neri also sees a greater opportunity to create new value from data and announced what he believes will be a game changer: memory-driven computing.
Memory-driven computing is a scalable, composable architecture that helps unlock the value in your data. HPE is building this open infrastructure now so that you can have a single security protocol, single data framework, and single management platform across millions of devices. There will no longer be a need for databases.
This is global data orchestration from every edge to any cloud, and delivered as a service when you need it.
