Most industries have adopted cloud-based solutions, but the healthcare industry has been slow to embrace the cloud. This slow adoption is partially due to concerns about safeguarding confidential patient information and compliance with key regulations such as HIPAA.  And, many healthcare IT departments are simply burdened with outdated legacy systems and feel overwhelmed with the prospect of supporting yet another standard or protocol.

However, according to a recent ZDNet.com article, if those obstacles are overcome, cloud computing solutions can bring tremendous benefits to healthcare organizations, by improving patient care and reducing overall healthcare costs.

What is your opinion on this topic?  Is healthcare hesitant to jump on the cloud (Ripe), or have you seen most healthcare organizations using the cloud successfully already (Hype)?
