The bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement was started because employees want to have certain devices that their companies do not provide. Employees might be given a PC with Window XP and a BlackBerry from their company, but would rather use the Mac or Windows 7 PC and iPhone that they have at home. In the next few years we may see a shift from BYOD to choose-your-own-device (CYOD). Companies would give their employees options of what devices they can use. Employees would then be able to choose the device they feel best suits them, and they would no longer have a need for BYOD.

Tablets may also aid the BYOD movement to its end. With tablets becoming more advanced, more employees are using their iPads or Android Tablets when they are out of the office, rather than using their laptops. And as these tablets continue to become more advanced the trend may continue to move toward heavy tablet use.

What do you think? Is the BYOD movement already on its way out and CYOD is ripe? Or is CYOD all hype?
