Early this year, The Green Grid (TGG), an international, non-profit consortium working to enhance data center resource efficiency, conducted a survey to learn more about current economizer awareness, perceptions, and use in the data center industry. The survey participants included facilities managers, engineers, IT professionals, executives and project managers.
The survey found that nearly half of data centers are using economizers, a type of cooling that takes advantage of favorable weather conditions to cut down on energy use, to provide natural cooling, and they are saving an average of 20% off their energy costs. Of those not using economizers, 24% are considering implementation.
What do you think about implementing initiatives for a green data center? Is this Hype, and you don’t think this is a priority yet, or is this Ripe, and you think implementing economizers are a strong improvement for data centers?
