The cloud has become a storage place for just about everything. And now as the military and different government agencies are looking to use the cloud to hold top secret information it is more important than ever to make sure that the cloud is secure.

So how can you be sure that your cloud is secure? Many cloud providers will tell you that the cloud they provide is secure, but to be sure ask these questions from CIO.com:

  • What encryption methods will be employed for my data? To fully protect data the cloud needs to be encrypted at rest and in transit.
  • What compliance regulations do you subscribe to? Chose a cloud provider who already adheres to your organization’s security standards, this will ensure that your data will be properly secured.
  • How are you storing my data? Understanding the architecture of the virtual environment is important in knowing that your data will be secure.
  • Who are the people protecting the fortress? It is important to know who will be handling the cloud daily. You might want to consider things like what experience the staff has and the hiring process that the cloud provider uses.

Are these questions ripe and would be helpful to ask a cloud provider when it comes to your cloud’s security? Or are these questions hype?
