Healthcare ISVs: Jumping on the Cloud?

Reading Time: < 1 minuteA lot of ISVs are hesitant to jump on the cloud bandwagon because they are worried about losing their licensing revenue and the business model changes that can occur. Yet demand from their clients cannot be ignored.  More and more clients are looking to take their applications to the cloud.  As a result many healthcare ISVs are moving to provide their applications via the cloud. Those that are making the switch to use the cloud are either building their own clouds or outsourcing this to a cloud provider.  This can be a real adjustment, especially when dealing with regulations like HIPAA. If you are a healthcare ISV, how are you addressing this pressure to move your applications to the cloud?  Is it Hype to move your applications to the cloud, or are you already offering or planning to offer your applications in the cloud (Ripe)?  We’d love to hear your comments below, too!  What are the most important factors you are considering/have considered in this transition? Get a Raise, Work From Home

Reading Time: < 1 minuteA recent survey conducted by job search website, Dice, shows just how much some IT leaders want to telecommute.  In fact, 35% of IT workers said they would take a 10% pay cut to work from home. A CIO.com article featured these survey results, but argued why you should actually be paid more to work from home.  Here are a couple benefits to the employer: Productivity will rise (no co-workers to chat with, no traffic to make you late) You save the employer money (one less person using office supplies, food, etc.,  reduced infrastructure costs, less office space needed) What do you think – is this Hype (your organization would never support telecommuting this much) or Ripe (this is something that is happening more and more in your organization)? Gripes with Outsourcing: Is Service to Blame?

Reading Time: < 1 minuteAccording to the results of the 2011 IDG Enterprise Outsourcing and Service Providers Survey, 44% of the 1,176 IT leaders who responded to the online survey said their service-level agreements (SLAs) are tighter than they were three years ago.  However, they cited poor-quality service as the top risk of IT outsourcing—ahead of security, loss of internal knowledge and hidden costs. Does this apply to your business?  Some IT leaders are blaming lax internal governance and an overreliance on contractual obligations.  For your business, are these survey results Hype (you are not seeing poor-quality service) or Ripe (this is an issue you face with your provider)? iPad: Good For Angry Birds, Saving Lives

Reading Time: < 1 minuteA recent CIO.com article shared that at some Texas hospitals, iPads and iPhones sever the desktop computing cord, allowing doctors and nurses to spend more time with their patients. The iPad will allow doctors and nurses to spend more time with their patients. It’s a significant break from the traditional hospital setting; instead of staring at a computer screen, nurses and doctors will be interacting with patients. Some ways they are using the iPad/iPhone: Giving a patient an iPad with game-like apps on it to test motor skills Nurses will be able to roam bedsides while remotely checking  EKGs on their iPads Doctors are already sharing medical records on iPads with their peers, in order to discuss patient care What do you think about this healthcare IT advancement?  Is this implementation of healthcare IT Hype (not ready yet) or Ripe? Does the C-suite have a tight hold on the purse strings for cloud?
